Basics of Index Builder
If you filed/categorized a few topics, and then switched to Index Builder, you'll see them already present in both lists: 'Index Entries' and 'Available for Terms'. That's because...

• Every time a new topic is filed, it's title is also added to the index. This way, you'll have an alphabetic list of all topics in 'Index Entries'. Whether these topics are listed in HI or not, it depends on the Tools > Options > Project Options > Terms Only checkbox.

• Every time a new topic is filed, it is added to 'Available for Terms'. That's because a new topic is susceptible to creating multiple new index terms out of it.

Note. When there are no new topics for the session, 'Available for Terms' is empty - unless you drag items onto it manually.

Creating Terms
In addition to topic titles, the index may contain terms/phrases. To create a term...

• Drag a topic from 'Index Entries' to 'Available for Terms'.

• Drag it back from 'Available for Terms': in 'Index Entries', a new item is created, with the corresponding HTML title and filename, and with the index entry value in editing mode. Type the term or phrase and press Enter.

Shortcut. Doubleclick topic in 'Available for Terms' (instead of dragging)..

• You may drag the same topic from 'Available for Terms' again (or doubleclick it), and create another term; repeat until all terms associated with this topic are created.

Global Shortcut. Doubleclick topic in the Index list and all the above operations are performed automatically..

Sorting
Sorting of the index, in most cases, is based on your project's default language. However, under special circumstances, you may change it to a different language.
