Creating a project and the default Sort Language
The default Sort Language is applied to the root folder when you first open a new
project. But you can change the Sort Language of any folder at any time (expand the
'Sort Preview' button for the folder). The default Sort Language is also used in
various other situations in the life of a project (like, for instance, as a default for
index sorting).
When a new folder is created, it inherits the
Sort Language of its parent
When you create a folder, it inherits the Sort Language of its parent. But you can change
this setting per folder (expand the 'Sort Preview' button for the folder).
When a new folder is created, it is applied the default Sort
Method
When you create a new folder, it is applied the default Sort Method, which can be 'Manual'
or 'Alphabetic'. But you can change this setting per folder (expand the 'Sort Preview'
button for the folder). It is therefore important to select the default Sort Method (when
the project is created) according to the most used sort method of a particular project.
Temporary Sorting
A folder's contents (and other lists) can be also sorted by pressing a column header on
the 'Folder Contents' list. This is, however, only a temporary sort order. It does not
affect the final sorting of items, as it appears on the web.
Alphabetic Sorting is Automatic
You don't have to do anything in order to have alphabetic folders sorted. Folders'
contents get sorted regardless of whether the 'Sort Preview' button was pressed or not on
a particular folder.
What does 'Sort Preview' do?
Two things:
• It provides the user with a preview of the true final sort order of items on the web,
after items are appended, deleted, etc. in the 'Folder Contents' list. That's a preview
only; with or without it, the folder's content gets sorted anyway.
• Restores dragging to position in manual sorting folders, after some temporary
sort order has been employed. For instance, you've been dragging items to position in a
folder that's set for manual sorting. At some point, you need to see the items sorted by
their filenames, and press the 'Filename' column header. Now, in order to be able to drag
items to position again, first press 'Sort Preview'; this restores the order you've been
working on.
Manual Sorting: By Mouse or Keyboard
• By Mouse. You can drag items to position by their 'item indicator' at the left.
The item indicator is only enabled for dragging when a small 'm' is visible on it. Else,
press 'Print Preview' (see above) or enable manual sorting for the folder (expand 'Print
Preview').
• By Keyboard. Press Alt+Up (or Alt+Down) and the current selection moves
accordingly.
