Converting Legacy Pages to UTF-8
Although KSW does accept legacy ANSI-encoded pages, you may want to convert such pages to UTF-8.
You can choose from a number of Unicode file conversion tools. A free such tool is Sisulizer's Kaboom at http://www.sisulizer.com/kaboom/. Even if you have a large number of legacy pages, converting to UTF-8 is a 10 minute procedure; select them all in Windows Explorer, and drag to Kaboom. All pages must be of the same encoding. Let Kaboom reset the "Content-Type" meta tag for you.

Conversion - does it always work?
It should. But you need to specify the correct encoding of legacy pages. Conversion tools require that you specify the encoding you start from. If missed, the resulting files will contain unexpected characters.

Note. Files encoded by a Windows code page are not signed; characters are assigned to the same code range in all such encodings; thus, technically, it is not possible to determine the exact ANSI encoding - it must be specified by the user.

PDF and Word Documents
Never convert PDF and Word documents (they are not text files, encoding tools corrupt them).
